In 1951, Ray, then 24, wed Williams; their marriage ended the following year, leading Della Howard Robinson – his former flame – to wed him again.

Ray and Robinson shared three sons – Ray Jr, David, and Robert – prior to divorcing in 1977, following 20 years together. Ray’s infidelity caused the breakdown of their marriage as two paternity suits were filed against him by Robinson.

Margie Hendricks, one of his Raeletts backup singers from Georgia, gave birth to Charles Wayne Hendricks who would become Charles Wayne Hendricks Sr.

Hendrix gave birth in Harlem while Ray paid the bills and promised he would look after their son before passing away himself shortly thereafter. Unfortunately he never did.

Hendricks generally lives a quiet life away from public scrutiny; however, in 2013 he and his half-siblings gained notoriety when they won a lawsuit to prevent termination of song rights.

Hendricks lost his mother when he was young.

Charles Wayne Hendricks experienced great sorrow upon the passing of his mother during childhood, due to her being fired by her father for having an affair with trumpeter John Hunt and eventually dying as a result. This happened in 1973.

Hendrix met Ray while still married to Robinson; at 23 years old she had moved from Philadelphia to New York so as to be with Lula (her older sister).

She began sleeping regularly with Ray until she discovered she was pregnant, at which point they discussed and made the decision to keep their child.

Hendricks was born in 1959 but never saw much of either his parents – especially after Ray fired Hendrix – due to her tragic death after Ray fired Hendrix leaving behind their young child.

Charles Wayne Hendricks never lived a public life.

Charles Wayne Hendricks made the choice to live an inconspicuous existence. Regina King played his father, Ray, in a biopic film called Ray (2004); otherwise he may have declined participation altogether. King played her beloved mother role.

In an interview, Hendricks revealed she wasn’t sure whether any crew members reached out to him prior to casting him as she believes he wouldn’t participate.

This movie depicts Ray’s life and career from its start in the South up through his rise to stardom during the 1950s and 60s, all the way to stardom during that era.

His son Hendricks wasn’t part of the movie itself but was part of a lawsuit over song rights infringement – one they ultimately won with their siblings.

Most of Ray’s children (two of which were in jail at the time), were told they would each inherit $500,000 upon his death; years after his passing away they attempted to obtain rights to his music through termination clauses under copyright law.

However, this was made more challenging as Ray Charles Foundation sued them, alleging they violated his agreement and contravened its provisions. They eventually prevailed with this lawsuit and now count 11 half-siblings of Charles Wayne Hendricks among their numbers.

Ray Charles Robinson Jr., David Robinson and Robert Robinson; Reatha Butler; Alexandra Bertrand; Robyn Moffett; Evelyn Robinson and Raenee Robinson (of Sheila Robinson); Vincent Kotchounian; Ryan Corey Robinson from Bok are all half-siblings of Charles Wayne Hendricks.

Ray Jr., Robert, Raenee and Corey Hendricks had long been embroiled in disputes regarding their esteemed father’s estate.

Hendricks’ older half-brother Ray Jr. recently addressed their late father openly during a recent interview. Even though he was blind, 17-time Grammy Award winner taught Ray Jr. how to ride a bicycle.

Ray Jr. spoke highly of his father and noted how much of an impact his discipline and accomplishment had in shaping him; Ray Jr. wrote the book You Don’t Know Me dedicated to his legendary alto saxophonist who passed away June 10, 2004.

Between October 18, 1957 and December 4, 1958, Ray Charles and Bea were secretly married. They met while he was on tour and Bea was working as his secretary; their wedding took place without telling anyone for almost two months afterward. Bea was Ray’s sole wife whom he always referred to as his “baby.”

His marriage to Eileen Williams only lasted one year; while still married to Eileen, Reatha gave birth three times before giving birth again with Mary-Chantal Bertrand in 1968 and finally Bea in 1977 shortly after fathering Vincent; nine of those were from their union together.

Ray Charles died at his Beverly Hills home at age 74 in 2004 after an 18-year musical career that saw him excel as pianist, composer, singer and bandleader in soul music. The Ray Charles Foundation provides assistance for vision and/or hearing-impaired people while twelve of his children received shares from his trust fund – leading them to believe an increase in royalties would compensate their inheritance – leading them into legal disputes with Charles’ manager and others associated with his music and the foundation over this matter; eventually the foundation successfully argued in court against their claim in 2015.
